Osteopathic treatment is a gentle, non-invasive form of manual manipulation that works with the body’s own self-healing, self-regulating mechanisms, rather than imposing treatment upon the body. Osteopathy influences the primary relationship between the construction (anatomy) and function (physiology) of the human body to support total body health.
In most cases the patient has had many factors such as past injury, illness, stress and chronic habits of daily living contribute to their complaint. The result of these factors may manifest themselves locally in the body, or more frequently the symptoms are experienced far from the site of the original cause.
The job of the Osteopathic Practitioner is to correct structural disturbances so the body can work harmoniously as a unit, without interruption of blood flow, nerve transmission and lymphatic drainage. Just like a mechanic adjusts a machine, the Osteopathic Practitioner uses the laws of Nature to adjust the human body so it can function optimally.
Osteopathic Practitioners do not see themselves as ‘healers’, but instead as facilitators of health.
